How intent data changes a lead's score before it ever reaches sales

Most intent data content gets written for one of two audiences: ABM teams deciding which named accounts to prioritize, or sales teams deciding when to time a call. Both are real use cases. Neither answers a narrower, equally important question: how should a genuine intent signal change a lead's tier inside a lead generation program, before sales ever sees the name?

The mechanics of reading a signal and picking a data source are covered well elsewhere -- the short version is that sustained multi-topic research beats a single spike, and provider choice comes down to first-party co-op data versus third-party bidstream. What matters for lead scoring specifically is what a confirmed signal should do to a lead already sitting in your pipeline: a Single Touch lead that's been sitting in nurture for weeks, paired with a strong, fresh intent signal from the same account, is a legitimate case for skipping straight to an HQL, without waiting for another form fill to justify the jump.

This is a genuinely different use case from ABM account targeting, which assumes the accounts are already on a curated list and intent data is prioritizing among them. Lead generation intent scoring has to work on anonymous and semi-anonymous traffic too -- surfacing net-new leads from accounts that were never on a target list in the first place, because their research behavior earned them a spot the static list never gave them.

The routing question matters as much as the scoring question. A tiering system that upgrades a lead's score but doesn't also change how fast and to whom it gets routed is only half-built -- a lead that jumps tiers because of intent signal should hit a rep's queue immediately, not sit in the same weekly batch as everything else, because the signal that earned the upgrade decays within days.

Getting this right means Lead Generation and Intent Data can't operate as two separate systems reporting into two separate dashboards -- the signal has to write directly into the same tiering logic sales already trusts. That integration, more than any single scoring model, is what keeps intent-driven leads converting at the rate that supports our 94% success rate across active accounts.
