What we actually check when we verify a phone number or email before it goes live

Verification is more than pinging an email address once and marking it valid if it does not immediately bounce. A single ping only catches the most obvious failures, a completely dead domain or a malformed address, and misses the quieter problems, a mailbox that still technically exists but has been abandoned, or a number that has been reassigned to someone new since the record was last touched.

For email, we check deliverability at the domain and mailbox level, not just syntax, and cross-reference engagement history where it exists, since an address that accepts mail but has shown zero engagement across months of prior campaigns is a different risk than one with recent, active opens. A technically valid address with no engagement history gets flagged for closer review rather than treated the same as an actively engaged one.

For phone numbers, verification checks that a line is active and, where possible, still associated with the person and company on the record, since numbers get reassigned inside companies more often than most teams assume, a direct line that belonged to a departed employee six months ago is now ringing at someone else's desk entirely, which makes a connected call a wasted one even though the number itself was technically valid.

Company-level details go through their own validation, current employee count, headquarters location, active status, since a record can have a perfectly valid email and phone number attached to a company that was acquired or shut down since the record was last checked, information that changes whether that contact is worth reaching at all, independent of whether the contact details themselves still work.

Running all three checks together, rather than treating email, phone, and company validity as separate problems solved on separate schedules, is what keeps a record trustworthy end to end before it ever reaches a live campaign, which is the standard applied continuously across our database of 46M+ records rather than a one-time scrub that ages the moment it finishes running.
